ESCALA GALLERY

Our Gallery is located in the Silberrad Student Centre, a stunning building next to the Albert Sloman Library and overlooking the Campus’s largest lakes. Here you can see a small selection of ESCALA artworks on permanent display.

Opening times

Independent visits are possible all year from 10am to 4pm, Monday - Sunday. Maximum group size 30.

During University term time, it is possible to arrange guided visits on Wednesdays 1-4pm. Just email escala@essex.ac.uk. Maximum group size 12. Admission is free at all times.


Term times for 2022-2023

  •  Autumn Term: Thursday 6 October 2022 to Friday 16 December 2022
  • Spring Term: Monday 16 January 2023 to Friday 24 March 2023
  • Summer Term: Monday 24 April 2023 to Friday 30 June 2023

ESCALA TEACHING AND RESEARCH SPACE

The majority of ESCALA’s holdings are located in our innovative Teaching and Research Space, located in the Constable Building next to Wivenhoe House, now a four-star hotel. The painting of the house by John Constable is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.

Our Teaching and Research Space is used by staff and students from across the University, as well as by researchers from other universities. It is also accessible to members of the public by appointment.

Opening times

During University term time, it is possible to arrange to visit the ESCALA Teaching and Research Space on Wednesdays  1 - 4pm. Just email escala@essex.ac.uk. Maximum group size 15. Admission is free.
